Here we are with our first review of a Canadian stock analyst’s top three stock picks. The stock picks are presented by stock analysts on BNN at the end of a show when the analyst is asked to provide his/her top three picks for the show’s viewers. Usually the picks are stocks but sometimes they are bonds and occasionally one of the top picks is cash. As far as I know, I am the first one to provide a review of these top picks. This is not meant to be a thorough review of the analysts’ ability to select investments. Obviously it cannot be such when we are reviewing only three picks at a time. There is no perfect way to do this but I will try to review top picks that are roughly one year old.
As per a request from one of my subscribers, the first analyst to have his top picks reviewed is Robert Lauzon, Managing Director of Trading at Middleton Capital.

Given that the usual benchmark for comparison of Canadian stock selections is the S&P/TSX Composite Index, Mr. Lauzon may be pleased with the fact that his stocks beat the composite index by 17.4%. However, his stock selections lagged the average of my three Canadian models by 39%.
In the next episode, I will review Robert McWhirter’s top three stock picks from April 08, 2008.
Please feel free to provide feedback.
